Over the years I have heard from many new parents that they wished there were classes to prepare them for the realities of those first few days and weeks with their new baby. There are so many excellent classes to prepare for birth -- and make no mistake, birth is hugely important -- but it can be hard to focus on what comes after.
BabyDays classes are designed around the questions of these new parents: How can I get off to a good start with my baby in hospital? How about the first few days at home on our own? How will I know if my baby is getting enough milk (and what are the Red Flags to watch for if baby is not)?
Surveys repeatedly show that most women want to breastfeed their babies, but many find it challenging. Knowing what to expect, what is normal for newborn behaviour, strategies for managing daily life (and nights!) -- and meeting in a small group with other parents at the same stage -- can provide you with a framework to make your own decisions. Here's a great article about the value of getting that support early on (even before your baby is born) from BreastfeedingArts.
Information in BabyDays classes is evidence-based on the latest research. As an IBCLC board certified lactation consultant I am required to keep up to date in order to recertify.
